Instructions
- Scald milk and stir in sugar, lard and salt.
- Stir until lard is melted.
- Let cool to lukewarm.
- Sprinkle in the yeast.
- Stir until dissolved.
- Now add 4 cups of the sifted flour.
- Beat until smooth.
- Add the remaining 4 cups bit by bit, blending after each addition.
- The dough should not be too stiff.
- Turn out on a lightly floured board and knead until satin smooth and elastic. Place balls of dough in a greased bowl.
- Brush top with melted butter or lard.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place (about 80°) until doubled in bulk.
- This will take about 1 1/2 hours.
