Ingredients

  • 1 cup mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup milk, heated then cooled
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups shortening
  • 2 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Mix mashed potatoes, heated then cooled milk, salt, egg, sugar, and yeast together.
  2. Add flour gradually to the mixture and knead until a soft dough forms.
  3. Let the dough rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  4. Punch down the dough and knead again.
  5. Let the dough rise a second time until doubled, about 45 minutes.
  6. Cover the dough with a warm wet towel and roll it out on a floured surface.
  7. Cut the rolled dough into individual rolls.
  8. Place the rolls on a baking pan and let them rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.
