White Grape Apple Butter

Ingredients

  • 1 dozen apples
  • 6 cups white grape or apple juice
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Wash and quarter apples removing blossom end, no need to core or pare.
  2. In a large kettle, cook apples in juice until soft, about 45 minutes.
  3. Cool and press through a sieve or food mill. There should be 4 to 5 cups apple pulp.
  4. Add sugar and spices. Cook slowly, stirring often to prevent sticking, for 1 hour or until thick.
  5. Pack into sterilized jars, adjust lids and process in hot water bath for 10 minutes.
