Winter Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1 qt. milk
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar

Instructions

  1. Scald milk; add sugar, shortening and salt.
  2. Cool.
  3. Dissolve yeast in the 1/2 teaspoon sugar and warm water.
  4. Mix with cool milk mixture.
  5. Add flour to make a soft dough.
  6. Turn onto floured board and knead a couple of minutes until smooth.
  7. Place in well-greased, covered bowl in refrigerator until thoroughly chilled.
  8. Cut off what you will need for amount of biscuits you want.
  9. Let rise until double.
  10. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes or until browned.
  11. Keep remaining dough in refrigerator and use as needed.
