- Dissolve yeast in warm water with a small amount of sugar.
- Add the yeast mixture to the flour, along with enough warm water to make a medium stiff dough. Knead on a floured board for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a warm greased bowl; turn to grease the top.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise until it doubles in size, about 1 hour or more.
- Shape the dough into rolls or loaves.
- Let the shaped dough rise until it doubles in size.
- Bake at 275°F (135°C) for 10 to 15 minutes, then increase the oven temperature to 325°F (160°C) and bake until done, about 25 to 30 minutes.
- Grease the top of the bread or rolls when they begin to brown.
