Appalachian Red Grape Spread

Ingredients

  • 4 c. red grapes
  • 6 c. sugar
  • 4 c. apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp. ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Peel skins off grapes and set aside.
  2. Simmer peeled grapes in a saucepan until tender.
  3. Remove from heat and remove seeds with a drainer spoon.
  4. Add skins, vinegar and sugar; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1/2 hour.
  5. Add cinnamon and cloves and boil for 10 minutes.
  6. Pour into sterilized canning jars and seal tightly.
  7. Store in cellar or a cool, dry place.
  8. Yields 1 1/2 quarts.
