Apple-Pear Butter

Ingredients

  • 3 large apples - peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3 Bartlett pears - peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine apples, pears, and apple juice in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until apples and pears are soft, about 1 1/2 hours.
  2. Stir in honey, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Cook over low heat for 2 hours more, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove from heat; mash fruit with potato masher. Allow to cool completely, at least 20 minutes. Transfer to a blender and blend until smooth. Return to the saucepan over low heat; cook, uncovered, stirring often, until thickened, about 30 minutes.
