Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 cups finely chopped apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, heat sugar and water until sugar melts.
  3. Cut shortening into flour and milk to form dough.
  4. Roll dough out to form a rectangle.
  5. Spread chopped apples over dough.
  6. Sprinkle cinnamon over apples.
  7. Roll the dough into a jelly roll shape.
  8. Slice into 1/2-inch slices.
  9. Place the slices in the buttered baking dish.
  10. Pour the water and sugar mixture over the dough slices.
  11. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50 minutes or until the top is browned.
