Basic Cookie Mix

A versatile basic cookie mix that combines rich shortening and sweet sugar with flour, dry milk, and leavening for delicious homemade cookies suitable for all ages.

Ingredients

  • 4 c. shortening
  • 4 c. sugar
  • 9 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 c. nonfat dry milk
  • 3 1/2 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp. salt

Instructions

  1. In a 6-quart or larger bowl, cream shortening and sugar with an electric mixer, gradually adding sugar to the shortening.
  2. Blend thoroughly.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients: sifted all-purpose flour, nonfat dry milk, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture slowly, using low speed.
  5. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.
  6. Store in a tightly covered container.
