Basic Doughnut

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. shortening or oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp. nutmeg or equal amount of cinnamon or vanilla
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and 1/2 cup sugar.
  2. Add eggs.
  3. Beat well. Mix other dry ingredients (except last 1/2 cup sugar) in separate bowl.
  4. Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients.
  5. Beat well; add last 1/2 cup sugar.
  6. With a tablespoon, fill doughnut.
  7. Makes about 18 doughnuts.
