- The night before, mix together 1 package of yeast, 1 cup of water, and 1 cup of flour in a bowl.
- Let the mixture set in a warm place overnight to ferment.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 6 cups of bread flour, 1/3 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/3 cup of Crisco.
- Add the fermented starter from the previous night to the dry ingredients.
- Stir in 1 cup of milk and 3 tablespoons of lukewarm water until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 to 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it on a greased baking sheet or in a loaf pan.
- Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
