Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup coarsely chopped almonds with skins
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan.
  2. Stir in brown sugar and bring to a boil; then turn off heat and cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
  3. Rapidly stir in beaten eggs, being careful not to cook them.
  4. Add vanilla extract.
  5. In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour and baking powder.
  6. Stir the flour mixture into the sugar and egg mixture until well blended.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased 8-inch square pan.
  8. Sprinkle with coarsely chopped almonds and chocolate chips on top.
  9. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes.
