Ingredients

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. shortening
  • approximately 2/3 c. sweet milk or buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt (and soda if using).
  3. Cut in shortening until mixture is fine crumbly.
  4. Add milk and mix until soft dough forms.
  5. Gently knead dough a few times with floured hands.
  6. Press or roll out on a floured surface to 3/8-inch thickness.
  7. Cut out biscuits and place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
