Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. butter (do not melt on stove)
  • 1/2 c. Crisco or 8 Tbsp.
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 3 c. plain flour
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time. Mix well.
  3. Add dry ingredients; alternate with milk. Add flavoring. Pour in greased cake pan and place in a cold oven (not too near top of oven). Bake at 350° for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Test with straw.
