Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup Crisco
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup scalded milk

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the dry yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water and let sit until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sugar, salt, and Crisco.
  3. Pour scalded milk into the mixture and let it cool to room temperature.
  4. Add the yeast mixture and half of the flour to the bowl.
  5. Mix well until combined.
  6. Gradually add the remaining flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  7. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
  8. Work the dough down by kneading lightly.
  9. Divide the dough into buns and shape each piece.
  10. Place the buns on a baking sheet and let rise for another hour.
  11. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
