Burgundy Onions feature sweet, tender onions simmered in buttery wine with aromatic cloves, ideal as a sophisticated side dish for special dinners or hearty meals.

Ingredients

  • 5 or 6 white Spanish onions
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. Burgundy wine

Instructions

  1. Cut onions into 1/4-inch slices and separate into rings.
  2. Heat butter in a skillet over low heat.
  3. Add onions to the skillet, tossing with a wooden spoon until rings are coated with butter.
  4. Add cloves and salt, then cook until onions just start to brown.
  5. Pour in Burgundy wine, cover the pan, and simmer for about 15 minutes.
  6. Remove the cover and cook until the wine is reduced to a glaze.
  7. Serve immediately.
