Ingredients

  • about 1 1/2 cups corn
  • 2 cups brown sugar (half dark and half light)
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Pop the corn in shortening, about a dishpan full.
  2. Combine brown sugar, molasses, and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  3. Cook until the mixture reaches the hard crack stage, about 20 minutes of stove time and 12 minutes of hard boiling.
  4. Pour the hot syrup over the popped corn.
  5. With greased hands, form the coated popcorn into balls.
  6. Wrap each ball in waxed paper.
  7. Makes about 16 medium-sized balls.
