Casey'S Whole Wheat Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 c. lukewarm (85~) water
  • 1/4 c. shortening (margarine or vegetable oil)
  • 3 1/2 c. stirred whole wheat flour
  • 4 c. all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Soften dry yeast in 1/4 warm water.
  2. Mix together yeast, brown sugar, salt and 2 1/2 cups lukewarm water.
  3. Add shortening and wheat flour; blend well.
  4. Add all-purpose flour, slowly.
  5. When all ingredients are mixed, turn onto a floured board or counter and knead until smooth and elastic.
  6. Dough should be soft.
  7. Place in a greased bowl and turn dough over, greasing top of dough ball.
