Ingredients

  • 8 to 8 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 pkg. Red Star instant blend dry yeast
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 3/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 4 eggs

Instructions

  1. In a large mixer bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, yeast, sugar and salt; mix well.
  2. In saucepan, heat milk, water and butter until warm (120° to 130°); butter does not need to melt.
  3. Add to flour mixture.
  4. Add eggs.
  5. Blend at low speed until moistened; beat 3 minutes at medium speed.
  6. By hand, gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make a firm dough.
  7. Knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic, 5 to 8 minutes.
  8. Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top.
  9. Cover; let rise in warm place until light and doubled, about 1 1/2 hours.
  10. Punch down dough.
  11. Divide into 3 parts.
  12. On lightly floured surface, roll or pat each third to a 14 x 7-inch rectangle.
  13. Starting with shorter side, roll up tightly, pressing dough into roll with each turn.
  14. Pinch edges and ends to seal.
  15. Place in greased 8 x 4-inch bread pans.
  16. Cover; let rise in warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
  17. Bake at 375° for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
  18. Remove from pans; cool.
