Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup self-rising corn meal
  • 2 tablespoons oleo or bacon drippings

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil in an iron frying pan.
  2. Add cornmeal to the boiling water slowly, stirring constantly.
  3. When the mixture thickens, add oleo or bacon drippings.
  4. Cook just enough to mix the seasoning in.
  5. Serve in a soup bowl with buttermilk.
  6. Do not stir in after serving.
  7. When the milk is used up, add another topping of buttermilk.
