Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 - 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease and flour a 9" x 13" pan.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter.
  4. Remove from heat; stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  5. Beat in cocoa, flour and salt.
  6. If desired, add semi-sweet chocolate chips and mix well.
  7. Spread batter into prepared pan.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Do not overcook.
  9. NOTE: I used semi-sweet chocolate chunks and thought those made the brownies just divine! They're good right out of the oven and even better the next day.
