Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. water
  • 1 Tbsp. ammonia
  • 3 or 4 pieces charcoal
  • colored fountain pen

Instructions

  1. Place charcoal in a small disposal bowl.
  2. Mix salt, water, and ammonia together and pour the mixture over the charcoal.
  3. Put several drops of different colored inks on the charcoal.
  4. Leave the bowl undisturbed for several days and crystals will cover the charcoal in an interesting formation, growing and spreading every day.
  5. The crystals will be white where no ink is used.
