Custard Manju are delightful Japanese sweets with a tender pastry exterior filled with sweet bean paste, brushed with evaporated milk for a glossy finish, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 cup ice water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups Wesson oil
  • 1 can Tsubushi An
  • 1 small can evaporated milk

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour, salt, and add oil, mixing well.
  2. Gradually add cold water and knead into a dough.
  3. Form the dough into small balls, about the size of a walnut.
  4. Flatten each ball and wrap a small ball of Tsubushi An completely covering it.
  5. Place the filled dough balls on a cookie sheet.
  6. Brush the tops with evaporated milk using a pastry brush.
  7. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 25 minutes until golden.
