Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. hot water
  • 5 drops oil of peppermint
  • food coloring, your choice

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening, powdered sugar, salt, butter, hot water, peppermint oil, and food coloring thoroughly.
  2. Add more powdered sugar as needed to make a stiff dough.
  3. Roll out the dough on a board to the desired thickness, using about half a box of sugar.
  4. Cut into small mint shapes with cutters.
  5. Let stand on wax paper uncovered overnight.
  6. Place the mints in a container for storage.
  7. The mints will freeze well.
