Dough Dogs

Ingredients

  • 8 hot dogs
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese
  • Dijon-style mustard
  • 2 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. cold shortening

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°.
  2. Split hot dogs almost through and fill with cheese.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a mixing bowl.
  4. Cut in shortening until crumbly.
  5. Add milk to make a soft dough.
  6. Knead lightly a few times.
  7. Roll into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  8. Cut into 8 rectangles.
  9. Spread each with a little mustard.
  10. Wrap each hot dog in dough, tucking in the ends and sealing with a little cold water.
  11. Place seam side down on a greased baking sheet and bake about 12 minutes, until nicely browned.
  12. Serves 6 to 8.
