A warm, comforting baked pudding made from stale yeast doughnuts soaked in custard, with rich vanilla flavor, perfect for brunch or dessert with a nutmeg sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. stale yeast doughnuts
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 20 eggs
  • 1 quart milk
  • 4 quarts milk
  • 2 Tbsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Beat the eggs, salt, and 1 quart of milk until well mixed.
  2. Stir in the stale yeast doughnuts and mix thoroughly.
  3. Mix the remaining 4 quarts of milk with vanilla and cinnamon together.
  4. Add the milk mixture to the egg and doughnut mixture and stir well.
  5. Let the mixture stand until the doughnuts are softened.
  6. Pour into greased 9 x 13 x 2-inch pans.
  7. Set the pans in hot water and bake in a 350°F oven until the pudding is firm.
  8. Serve warm with Nutmeg Sauce.
