Ingredients
Instructions
- Combine beaten egg, sugar and melted Crisco.
- Add milk.
- Mix flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and mace.
- Combine the liquid and dry ingredients, stirring only until smooth.
- Roll dough to 1/2-inch thick on floured board or pastry cloth.
- Cut with floured doughnut cutter. Fry in Crisco heated to 365°.
- (An inch square of bread browns in 60 seconds.)
- Turn doughnuts when brown.
- Fry until golden brown on both sides (3 to 5 minutes).
- Remove.
- Drain on paper towels in stand up position.
- Makes 12 to 14.
