Dyed Easter Eggs Recipe

Ingredients

  • 12 white eggs
  • 2 teaspoons distilled white vinegar
  • About 40 drops (1/2 teaspoon) food coloring
  • Crayons (preferably clear or white ones) or stickers, for decorating (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place a rack over a paper-towel-lined baking sheet; set aside.
  2. Place eggs in a single layer in a large saucepan with a tightfitting lid.
  3. Add enough water to cover the eggs by 1 to 2 inches.
  4. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  5. Remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 10 minutes.
  6. Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove eggs to the rack and let sit until cool enough to handle.
  7. Pour 1 cup water into a small, nonreactive bowl or mug.
  8. Add vinegar and food coloring and stir to combine.
  9. For a darker color, add a few more drops of food coloring.
  10. Repeat for additional colors.
  11. If desired, decorate cooled eggs with crayons or stickers.
  12. Using a spoon, dip each egg into the dye, turning to coat evenly.
  13. Remove to the rack to dry.
