Easy Peppermint Candy Canes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 3/4 - 1 teaspoon red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Blend together corn syrup, sugar, water, and cream of tartar.
  2. Stir, dissolving the sugar.
  3. Without stirring, cook until the hard ball stage (265°F).
  4. Remove from burner; add peppermint oil, blend well.
  5. Divide into 2 porions.
  6. In one half, add red coloring.
  7. Pour over greased platters.
  8. Let cool.
  9. When cool enough to touch, pull each apart seperatly.
  10. Form into ropes and twist red with white candy mixtures.
  11. Cut into desired lengths and shapes.
