Ingredients

  • 1 packet dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups milk or water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 4 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in milk or water.
  2. Add sugar, salt, margarine, and flour.
  3. Mix all ingredients with a wooden spoon.
  4. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  5. Form pretzels from the dough.
  6. Brush with slightly beaten egg or a little egg white with a few drops of water.
  7. Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake at 425°F for 15 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
