Ingredients

  • 2 (No. 2) cans tomatoes (undrained)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 slices stale bread, broken fine
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients well.
  2. Pour into a shallow baking dish.
  3. Cover the entire top with a teaspoon of butter (about 1/4 pound).
  4. Cook in a slow oven (275°F) for 4 to 5 hours.
