Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time; beat after each addition.
  3. Add flour and milk alternately, ending with flour.
  4. Add vanilla; mix well.
  5. Pour batter into two greased and floured 9-inch pans.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  7. Cool in pans for 10 minutes.
  8. Remove from pans and cool completely.
  9. Split the layers to make two cakes.
  10. Make the filling as desired and assemble the cake.
