Ingredients

  • 3 large Spanish or Bermuda onions
  • vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare onions by cutting into 1/4-inch slices and separating into rings.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a 3-quart saucepan to 375°F, about 1 inch deep.
  3. In a bowl, beat the egg and milk together until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, mix the flour and salt.
  5. Dip each onion ring into the batter, letting excess drip off.
  6. Fry a few onion rings at a time in hot oil, turning once, until golden brown, about 2 minutes.
  7. Drain on paper towels and serve.
