French Shortcake

Instructions
- Cream margarine, sugar and egg yolks.
- Combine flour, salt and baking powder.
- Add flour mixture to creamed mixture with milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla; mix well.
- Pour batter in greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
- Set aside.
- Beat egg whites with cream of tartar and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla.
- When whites reach a peak, fold in 1 cup sugar. Spread on top of unbaked cake mixture.
- Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
- Serve with strawberries or any fresh fruit.
