Ingredients

  • 1 qt. milk
  • 2 2/3 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 c. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 7 to 9 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar

Instructions

  1. Add yeast to warm water to activate.
  2. Combine milk, shortening, sugar, salt, and the activated yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour and knead into a soft dough.
  4. Let the dough rise until doubled in size.
  5. Work the dough into biscuits, avoiding letting them rise too high.
  6. Drop the biscuits into hot fat, which should be slightly hotter than 350°F.
  7. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes per batch.
  8. Remove from fat and drain on paper towels.
