Ingredients

  • 4 medium tomatoes
  • fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the tomatoes; slice crosswise to make 3 thick pieces.
  2. Dust the tomato slices with salt, pepper, and a little sugar; then roll in fine dry bread crumbs.
  3. Beat the egg in a bowl.
  4. Add the milk to the beaten egg and mix well.
  5. Dip each tomato slice into the egg mixture, then again in the bread crumbs to coat thoroughly.
  6. Deep fry the coated tomato slices in hot Mazola oil (around 350°F) until browned, about 1 minute per batch.
  7. Drain on crumbled paper and serve plain or with toast with white sauce.
