Fun Castle
Create a whimsical castle using assorted bricks, rocks, and sponge, transformed with colorful bluing and food coloring. This playful craft is perfect for kids and adults alike, combining artistic expression with a splash of color and texture for a fun, decorative project or imaginative play.
Ingredients
- pieces of old broken bricks ⓘ
- porous rocks
- pieces of synthetic foam rubber or cellulose sponge
- 4 Tbsp water
- 4 Tbsp laundry bluing
- 4 Tbsp ammonia
- various food coloring
Instructions
- Wash the pieces of old broken bricks and porous rocks thoroughly in plain water until they are wet.
- Wet the sponge and wring it out. Place the rocks, bricks, and sponge in a shallow glass bowl (avoid metal).
- Arrange the bricks, rocks, and sponge to form the desired castle shape, stacking as needed.
- Mix 4 tablespoons of water, laundry bluing, and ammonia in a glass jar.
- Pour the mixture over the rocks, ensuring all are dampened.
- Add a drop or two of food coloring and a few drops of bluing onto one or two of the rocks.
- Sprinkle 4 tablespoons of salt over the structure and watch it 'grow' with color and texture.
- After two days, add 2 tablespoons each of water and ammonia to the edge of the bowl to enhance the effect.
