Glazed Yeast Donuts

Ingredients

  • 1 c. scalded Milk, cooled to lukewarm
  • 1 pkg. Dry Yeast, dissolved in 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 Eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 c. Shortening, melted
  • 1/4 c. granulated Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 4 c. Flour
  • 1 lb. Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. Vanilla

Instructions

  1. To the milk add eggs, shortening, sugar and salt.
  2. Mix well. Then add the dissolved yeast.
  3. Stir and begin adding flour gradually, stirring well after each addition.
  4. Stir in flour until spongy.
  5. Put out on floured board and form into a ball.
  6. Put into a greased bowl.
  7. Let rise 45 min.
  8. Turn out again and knead.
  9. Put back into bowl again and let rise again.
  10. Turn out on board and knead.
  11. Roll to 1/2 in. thick and cut 4 in. diameter circles. Small circle can be made with bottle cap.
  12. Let rise until spongy. Cook in heavy skillet with 2 in. shortening for 1 min. each side. Cool and dip in glaze of powdered sugar, vanilla and warm milk thick enough to cling to donuts.
