Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • enough cooled chicken broth to cook dumplings

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, salt, baking powder, egg and shortening thoroughly. Add 1/4 cup broth to make dough stiff.
  2. Roll dough into 1/4-inch thickness and cut.
  3. Add milk to broth.
  4. Heat and add dumplings, salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Bring to a rolling boil, then turn heat down to low.
  6. Cook slowly until done.
