Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3 cups scalded milk
  • 2 cinnamon sticks (about 3 inches each)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. In the top of a double boiler, stir together the cocoa, sugar, and salt.
  2. Gradually add boiling water, stirring constantly.
  3. Place over direct heat and boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Add milk and cinnamon sticks, then place over boiling water.
  5. Stir and heat for 10 minutes. Remove the cinnamon sticks and stir in vanilla.
  6. Beat with a wire whisk to froth the milk.
  7. Serve immediately.
