Sweet and tangy homemade pickles with a crunchy texture, infused with spices and finished with a sugary syrup, perfect for snack lovers and pickle enthusiasts.

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp. canning salt
  • 2 Tbsp. alum
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. mixed pickling spices
  • 4 c. cold vinegar
  • 6 c. sugar
  • small or medium cucumbers

Instructions

  1. Pack whole small or medium cucumbers into a gallon jar with lid.
  2. Add canning salt, alum, and mixed pickling spices to the jar.
  3. Pour in 4 cups of cold vinegar and add water as needed to fill the jar.
  4. Seal the jar and let stand for 8 weeks.
  5. Drain and wash the jar (not the pickles).
  6. Cut the cucumbers into thick slices and put them back into the jar.
  7. Add 6 cups of sugar (no liquid).
  8. Shake and roll the jar several times a day until the sugar dissolves and forms a syrup.
  9. Store in the fridge; will keep for months.
