Ingredients

  • 3 (28 oz.) cans Italian plum tomatoes
  • drippings from Meatballs and Sausage
  • fresh or dry basil
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 12 oz. can tomato paste
  • 2 cans water (from empty tomato paste cans)
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar

Instructions

  1. Put the tomatoes in a large saucepan.
  2. Bring the tomatoes to a boil, then crush them and let it boil uncovered for about 40 minutes.
  3. Add drippings from Meatballs and Sausage along with the meat, and let boil for another 30 minutes with the meat.
  4. At the same time, add basil (about 3 to 4 leaves or 1 teaspoon dry), and salt.
  5. Add the tomato paste with water and sugar, then bring to a boil for another 40 minutes, stirring often.
  6. Skim the sauce if necessary and serve with your favorite pasta.
