Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups apples or substitute
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Set oven at 350°F.
  2. Melt margarine in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch dish or pan.
  3. Heat sugar and water until sugar melts, then pour over melted margarine.
  4. Cut shortening into self-rising flour until crumbs are fine.
  5. Add milk and stir with a fork only until dough leaves sides of the bowl.
  6. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead just until smooth.
  7. Roll dough into a large rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
  8. Sprinkle cinnamon over the sliced apples.
  9. Roll up the dough like a jelly roll.
  10. Dampen the edge of the dough with a little water and seal the roll.
  11. Slice the dough into about 16 slices, each about 1/2-inch thick.
  12. Carefully pour sugar syrup over the rolls.
  13. Bake for 1 hour.
