- Add sugar, salt, shortening, and egg to the yeast mixture and stir well.

- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
- Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan and let it rise again until doubled, about 30 minutes.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
