Ingredients

  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
  • 6 Tbsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until foamy.
  2. Gradually beat in sugar, one tablespoon at a time, until the mixture is stiff and glossy.
  3. Ensure the meringue is very stiff but not dry.
  4. Spoon the meringue evenly over the filling of a 9-inch pie in an ovenproof glass or ceramic dish.
  5. Attach the meringue to the edge of the crust to prevent shrinking during cooking.
  6. Do not spread the meringue too smoothly.
  7. Place the pie on the center rack in the microwave.
  8. Cook on medium (50%) power for 3 to 4 minutes until the meringue is set.
  9. Brown the meringue for 4 to 5 minutes until golden brown.
