Meringued Nuts

Ingredients

  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 lb. shelled pecan halves

Instructions

  1. Beat egg whites, salt and cream of tartar.
  2. Add sugar a little at a time until all sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add vanilla.
  4. Fold pecans into meringue mixture.
  5. Melt 1 stick margarine onto cookie sheet. Spread meringue and nut mixture over melted margarine.
  6. Bake at 325° for 30 minutes.
  7. Use spatula and turn nuts every 10 minutes. If too brown, after 20 minutes, turn oven down and cook another 10 minutes.
