Ingredients

  • 2 c. scalded milk, cooled
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • grated orange rind (optional)

Instructions

  1. In bowl place melted shortening and cool milk; add next 8 ingredients, stirring well after each.
  2. Finally, add flour 1 cup at a time until a soft dough can be kneaded to a smoothness. Allow to double in shape.
  3. Punch down and form round disks and allow to raise.
  4. Fill a center finger dent with jelly of your choice and bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes.
