Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup lard
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 1/2 yeast cakes
  • 6 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Mix lard, hot water, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. When water is lukewarm, add 1 1/2 yeast cakes and let it dissolve.
  3. Pour in 4 cups of flour and mix thoroughly.
  4. Gradually add the remaining 2 cups of flour, one cup at a time, until the dough is not too wet.
  5. Knead the dough until it is smooth and not sticky.
  6. Shape the dough into a balloon shape.
  7. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  8. Punch down the dough and reshape it.
  9. Place the shaped dough into pans.
  10. Let the dough rise again until puffy.
  11. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes until golden brown.
