Ingredients

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 3/4 c. hot water
  • 2 cakes fresh or dry yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • about 5 1/2 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Scald milk.
  2. Pour into bowl, add sugar, salt, shortening and hot water.
  3. Stir until shortening is melted.
  4. Cool to lukewarm, add yeast which has been crumbled into 1/4 cup lukewarm water and stirred until softened.
