Mother'S Good Bread Pudding

Instructions
- Cut soft bread into slices and break into crumbs.
- Pour over them scalded milk and the melted butter.
- Let stand 5 minutes. Beat egg yolks; add 3 tablespoons sugar, vanilla and salt. Combine with bread mixture and turn into baking pan.
- Set in pan of hot water in slow oven and bake 45 minutes or until custard is firm.
- Cool.
- Spread with a layer of jelly and cover with the stiffly beaten egg whites to which 2 tablespoons of sugar has been added.
- Brown in oven and serve hot or cold.
